Putting Your Values Into Action

Putting Your Values Into Action

want to invite you into a very powerful journey. For the past few years, as I’ve delivered sermons in Unitarian Universalist churches, I heard the same question over and over again: How?
“I agree with what you’re saying, but how do I do it in my life?”

Like most folks, you probably know what you want your life to look like. You probably know what you want the world to look like. And yet, current reality isn’t quite there. A lot of people know what they want, but they don’t know how to get from where they are to where they want to be. If you knew how to create something different, would you do it?

Give me a day and see if a bit of inspiration gets sparked in you. Register now for the next workshop on March 4.

When I led this transformative program as a Humanist minister, I saw the changes in people’s lives, right in front of my eyes. Some of their feedback at the end of the pilot program was just amazing:

“I now understand how I’ve linked being ‘right’ with being lovable and acceptable. This has helped me be improve relationships with my family and co-workers.”

“I have overcome my excessive self-criticism.”

“I’ve grown my courage and have been more brave about speaking authentically about my beliefs and values. I’ll continue to work on my forgiveness and being more joyful and less judgmental.”

“I am practicing trust more regularly. I’m more willing to be honest about discomfort in relationships.”

“I grew in awareness of the gap between my guiding principles and actions. As a result, I’m now more attuned and open to opportunities to live in accordance with my principles.”

If these are the kinds of changes you’d like to see in your own life, I invite you to be a part of this initial workshop on Saturday, March 4.

What I’ve noticed in recent weeks and months is that people are getting energized. It’s easy to fight against the things we don’t like. Over time, though, that can get exhausting. It’s equally important to know what we’re fighting for—to be able to cast a compelling vision for our lives and for the world around us. That’s really what this journey is all about.

There are a couple of things we need in order to cast a powerful vision and live into it with integrity. We need to have real clarity about our deepest values. And we need to build habits that support and energize our work toward a compelling vision of the future.
There are also some things that get in our way when we want to work for change in our own lives or in our community. We are prone to anxiety, and our reactions to anxiety or fear usually don’t line up with our deepest values. And we all have some old habits in place that don’t serve us very well any more.

The purpose behind this program is to tackle both sides of this equation: building clarity about what matters most in your life, and building the resilience to manage anxiety more healthily. Ultimately, we want to build a community of people who are supporting one another in breaking some old unhelpful habits and putting more satisfying habits in their place. We’re about building better selves—building integrity and purpose so that we live the best lives possible.

If that’s a journey you’d like to be on, join us Saturday, March 4.

Some people may have some reservations about this kind of work. I might not know what your concerns are, but I can tell you a few things. First off, this is not a program about spiritual beliefs. The curriculum is humanist and inclusive, without referring to any particular belief system. Second, this is not another new-agey philosophy workshop. This is about building practical skills that you can use in your life to help focus your actions in a way that lines up with what matters most to you. Third, this is a first step in a longer journey, not a quick fix, once-and-done experience. I’ll tell you more about that in person.

Finally, I want to make it clear that I believe in this work so strongly that I’m offering this 7-hour workshop for free. I’m confident that this will provide some insight and inspiration for you to help build wholeness in your own life and in the world around you, and that’s something I care about immensely.

So join us on Saturday, March 4. If you have any questions, give me a call or send me a message. I look forward to seeing you soon.
